The Places You’ll Go, 2026
Presented by 50/50, The Places You’ll Go is a visual art project rooted in Simon’s experience immigrating to Canada as a child, exploring how imagination shapes our understanding of unfamiliar worlds. Having grown up in Bangkok, his perception of Canada was formed through childlike curiosity and the surreal influence of Dr. Seuss, blending fantasy with anticipation. This project draws on that intersection of wonder and displacement, using black-and-white infrared film photography transformed through vivid digital colorization to reimagine Alberta’s landscapes as dreamlike, Seussian environments. Through these images, Simon reflects on themes of identity, belonging, and cultural dissonance, while highlighting the often-overlooked perspective of children navigating immigration. By merging personal narrative with a broader socio-cultural context, the work invites viewers into a poetic, visually rich exploration of diaspora, memory, and the resilience of imagination.
